What is your greatest Birthday fantasy? (for your next birthday!) Would you travel? Have a party? Cross an item off your bucket list? Have a private ritual, just you + the stars?
This question was asked to me when I was about to turn 25. I never knew I was allowed to dream! That year I ended up passing out hot pink flyers for my birthday celebration, + asking friends to follow a treasure map to my bedroom where they would feed me mangoes + sing me songs on the guitar. (That was in Santa Cruz!)
Living at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage in Missouri, folks put on their own birthday parties for themselves. I had never heard of that before! I thought you had to wait for someone else to throw you one! But throwing your own birthday party can be so empowering!
For various birthdays, I've had friends give me a ceremonial bath, I hosted an open mic + tea party, + potlucks/ vegan restaurants galore.... This year I had an adventure here in LA, complete with the Agape Choir singing me "Happy Birthday," a dance party, spa + lots of great food!
With all that is happening in the world, it is a reminder that life is short/ or can be, + we are here to live our dreams + give our gifts. "Take your dreams off the shelf," as the saying goes. They look so pretty up there, though, don't they?!
I'm reminding myself as well, as I have another book I want to write!

P.S. A truly impactful experience landed in my life this week! It was the day before the beloved Santa Monica restaurant, Rawvolution, was about to close, after being a cornerstone in the community + I received a message from one of the co-owners, Janabai Owens.
She told me my book, Little Red Recipes, was the first Raw Food book she ever bought!!! in 2002!!! + It inspired her Raw Food journey! (of course, she went on to open one of the most popular Raw Food businesses in LA, serving celebrities, etc.) WOW!
She bought the book at High Vibe, a store in Manhattan, where I barely remember wholesaling some books back then! Matt Amsden, her husband, said, Yes, they use the book, it's on their shelf in the kitchen! (OMG!)
We never know the impact we are making in life! Truly! I think I had 3 copies of my book in that store, total, ever. Wow wow wow.
P.P.S. Open-Eyed Heart-Wide Haggadah is officially SOLD OUT!!! (my New Age Ritual book that was featured on HuffPost + Today.com) But I'm taking PRE-ORDERS for the next printing!!!
